How does the planner find a meeting time?
It converts each teammate's working window into UTC by subtracting their offset, then intersects all the windows. The span where every window overlaps is the time the whole team is at their desk. The planner suggests a standup at the start of that overlap and translates it back into each person's local clock, so you can see at a glance who is starting their day and who is finishing.
What do I enter for the UTC offset?
The number of hours your teammate's local time is ahead of or behind UTC — for example 0 for London (winter), -5 for US Eastern, -8 for US Pacific, 5.5 for India, and 9 for Japan. Half-hour offsets like India's are supported. Because offsets shift with daylight saving, plan for the period you care about and re-check when the clocks change.
What if there is no overlap?
A spread from the US West Coast to East Asia often has no shared nine-to-five hours, and the planner will say so rather than invent one. When that happens, the usual answers are a rotating time that shares the pain fairly, an asynchronous written standup, or splitting into regional sub-teams. Widening one person's working window by an hour can also open a small overlap.
Does it handle working hours other than nine to five?
Yes. Each teammate has their own start and end hour, so you can reflect an early starter, a late finisher, or someone who deliberately shifts their day to bridge timezones.
